General Notes
A large tree with unusual sausage shaped fruit hanging down from the branches. The burgundy flower is produced at night, smelling like a mouse which attracts bats that then visit for the pollen and nectar. The fruit is used in traditional medicine along with the leaves, bark and roots. because of the abundant nectar, birds, bees, insects and butterflies are attratce to the flower and the fallen flower is eaten by animals, monkeys and the like. It is highly valued and culturally significant to the African communities. Widely used as an ornamental shade tree in streets, parks and large gardens.
Propagation Notes
Hot Water Stratified Seed
Collect the from the ground pods. Cut them open and scoop out the seeds and pulp. Pick out the seed and lay out on paper towel to dry thoroughly. Clean. Store in a cool dark place for 12 months before sowing.

Premium Seed Raising Mix
1 part Premium Seed Raising Mix + 2 parts Coarse Washed Sand.
Pour just off the boil, hot water over the seeds. Allow to soak overnight. Strain off the water and pat dry the seed between paper towels. Sow fresh seed, cover with thin layer of soil and then fine gravel, keep moist, place outside in a warm sunny position in a tropical climate or a hothouse with 50-75% humidity and an enviromental temperature of 23-30oC
