General Notes
A bulbous plant with large striking flowers producing a spectacular display. Plant as a specimen in a mixed border or mass planting. Deciduous in cooler climates but usually evergreen in warmer climates. Plant the bulbs with a third of the bulb above ground in late Winter, in a sunny, protected location.

Propagation Notes
Fresh Seed
Pick the ripe brown capsules off and place in a paper bag or lay out on a tray to dry thoroughly. The capsules will open and release the paper seed. Clean the seed and store in a cool dark place.
Viability:- 2 - 6 months (only about 50% germination after 6 months)

Premium Seed Raising Mix
Sow seed, cover with mix and lightly with fine gravel, water in. Place on 21°C heated bed with misters. Maintain a hothouse temperature around 21 - 24°C at plant level and hothouse environment between 75 - 95% humidity where possible. Spray fortnightly with fungicide and every 4 weeks with Seasol.

Pricking out:- 4 - 6 weeks after germination

Seedlings will take 5-6 years before flowering
Bulblets
Once the clump has died down for the winter and become dormant, dig up the clump and gently prise off the smaller bulbs from around the mother plant. Clean off the soil and store in a cool, dark place. Or pot up immediately.

Premium Potting Soil
Plant bulbs, pointy end up, leaving approximately a third of the top above mix level. Place outside in warmer climates or cold house in cooler climates to maintain a temperature around 21-25oC. Ensure they are not over watered as the bulbs will rot.
